Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) hosted Mike for a student exchange between September 2023 and January 2024. UQO is a public university in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, across the river from Ottawa.

Exchange Semester

The exchange was a four-month interruption of the apprenticeship at Safran during the third year of the ESIEE Paris engineering program. LinkedIn records the degree as "Bachelor's degree," which reflects the North American framing of credit transfer rather than a separate Canadian diploma.

The exchange is the only international academic experience in Mike's record and the only extended stay outside France. It bisects the three-year ESIEE program at the midpoint.

Context

UQO serves the francophone population of western Quebec and the Ottawa region. The language continuity (French-speaking Canadian university matched to a French engineering student) explains the choice. A French-language exchange in North America was a lower-friction alternative to an anglophone program.
